The development of the Monteverdi goes back to the special order of a passionate classics listener, who would name the prototype after his favorite composer. His request was of:
„an uncompromising speaker, ‚still compatible’ with living room dimensions and a sound, which makes electrostatic speakers dispensable and the desire for horn systems obsolete.“
What a challenge for the designer!
In the fall of 2003, the new Monteverdi made its debut at a home exhibition, which left the proud first owner and a small crowd of competent listeners enthusiastic. The sound fidelity and luxuriousness in equipment and workmanship were unanimously found to be of reference class.
In combination with congenial electronics – such as the Consequence Audio Triode Mono Power Amplifiers Satie Mono 22 S – the Monteverdi effortlessly surmounted the threshold between musical reproduction and perfect illusion.

Construction
The complex and heavy enclosure of the Monteverdi is finished in noble burl wood on the outside and internally equipped with numerous anti-resonance reinforcements. Both midrange drivers as well as the tweeter each have their own self-contained and wool-damped compartment. The two lateral 220-mm woofer chassis and their passive radiator counterparts share a common 80-l cabinet.
The inner surfaces of the 25 mm thick enclosure walls are completely covered with a generous layer of natural wool, a standard of all Consequence Audio speakers.
The frequency crossover network is contained in an external cabinet, which has the same noble finish of the speaker enclosures and is covered by a mirror-polished, palladium-plated brass lid.

The equipment of the crossover network is uncompromisingly audiophile:
Only Mundorf Supréme(R) capacitors in the midrange (even in all parallel branches!), pure copper ribbon coils (tweeter) and a specially made vacuum immersed air cored coil of 3-mm thick solid copper wire (woofer). The entire internal wiring of the speaker as well as its connection to the external crossover network uses the well-proven, solid multi-conductor 6N (99.9999%) Teflon-insulated copper cable of XLO.

For the midrange, designer Reinhard Gundlach selected an ultra-fast cone chassis from the Excel series of Norway’s specialist Seas. This unusual midrange driver features a copper phase plug, an ultra-light membrane, and uses six radially arranged neodymium magnets instead of a single ceramic magnet. The equally neodymium magnet-driven silk dome tweeter receives a special adjustment treatment for the Consequence Audio Pergolesi and Monteverdi speakers, which increases its sensitivity and extends its super high frequency range up to 40,000Hz. The 220-mm carbon woofer chassis and their passive radiator counterparts are special order items made in Germany exclusively for Consequence Audio. They achieve a lower cut-off frequency of less than 30 Hz.
