The Basie speakers fulfill highest expectations of audiophile connoisseurs and lovers of acoustic music. The exceptional musicality and relaxed tonal balance of the Basie speakers are outstanding. These extraordinary qualities are owing to Consequence Audio developer Reinhard Gundlach’s deeprooted understanding of instruments and voices. Because they can deliver the emotional intensity of live performances, the dynamic range of an orchestra and the swinging rhythm of a Big Band, the speakers bear the name of the Great Count Basie.
The Basie also reveals subtlest overtones of acoustic instruments and finest vibratos in voices with bewitching beauty, rich in timbre and with natural tone colors. Equally at home in both Jazz and Classics, listening satisfaction is always guaranteed.
The stunningly refined sound of the Basie maintains its natural transparency at every volume level.
Expressive strings reverb with silky body and warmth, horns and percussions with vitality and attack. The Basie enthrallingly unfolds breathtaking piano scales and sensitively models lasting decays of individual notes. The excitingly direct and tangible renditions of vocalists are likely to send shivers down your spine. Vibes, triangles and drums effortlessly explode just out of the blue. |
With its vivid impulsivity and astonishing command in the low bass range the Basie renders double basses taut contour and an impressively deep foundation.
The Basie is entirely handcrafted in Germany, using utmost care and devotion in all stages of production. Befitting the exquisite sound quality, the enclosures are masterfully finished in luxurious burl wood.
Their elegant design and delicate surface texture harmoniously blend the Basie into their owner’s interior as sophisticated elements of acoustic furniture.
Technical details
Guided by his trained ear and experience as performing jazz artist and arranger, Reinhard Gundlach designed his Basie speakers in tremendous efforts of extensive listening tests to find the best suited high quality components to approach the musical original. The neodymium magnet–driven 25-mm silk dome tweeter free of damping ferrofluid offers excellent resolution and detail. It always remains naturally decent and never annoys by hiss. The two fast 18-cm midrange real sandwich cones also are driven by ultra-strong neodymium magnets for superior dynamic compliance.
Their symmetrical arrangement around the tweeter increases sensitivity, reduces distortion, and adds to the highly accurate spatial definition of individual instruments on the sound stage. Together with their passive counterparts ,the two lateral 22-cm woofers achieve a low cut off frequency. The use of passive radiator membranes instead of bass reflex tubes is advantageous for the generation of very deep sound waves and also effectively prevents membrane overshooting at subsonic frequencies. All cone drivers are designed by the German manufacturer ATE. These outstanding cones offer very low distorsion, high damping and are free of partial resonances. The lateral arrangement of the bass membranes also enables the slender enclosure design, which dramatically extends the depth of the sound stage by reducing reflections at the speaker front to an absolute minimum.
The very rigid enclosures are structurally complex due to multiple internal anti-resonance stabilizations. Separate air-tight compartments are provided for the symmetric high/midrange, the woofer pair, and also the enormous frequency crossover network, which thus is completely protected from microphonic disturbances. The extremely elaborate low-loss network contains exclusive high purity copper foil coils free of microphonic effects. Mundorf Supreme© foil capacitors of impeccable audiophile reputation and a special made vacuum immerced air cored coil of 3 mm thick solid copper. An impedance linearization achieves a very smooth impedance variation by eliminating strong resonance peaks at the crossover and bass-reflex frequencies. This critically improves the control of the speaker by amplifiers of low output power. Together with its high sensitivity this qualifies the Basie as an ideal combination partner for high-grade single ended vacuum tube and class-A transistor amplifiers.
